PLATTEVILLE - The Darlington girls basketball team received a big performance from its backcourt and rolled to a 70-29 win over Iowa-Grant on Saturday.
Darlington (7-5, 4-2 SWAL) jumped out to a 20-2 lead and led by 23 points at halftime. Darlington senior Amy Jorgenson scored a game-high 25 points. Jorgenson scored 10 points in the first quarter.
"We came out pretty aggressive and really took control," Darlington coach Mike Chambers said. "She (Jorgenson) really took it to them. Defensively, any time you hold a team to just two points in a quarter you have to be doing something right."
Junior Cassidy Chambers scored 15 points, had five steals and made four 3-pointers. Junior Claire Scott had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Redbirds.
Black Hawk 50, Durand 31
SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk stayed unbeaten behind a strong fourth quarter.
Black Hawk (10-0, 3-0 Six Rivers East) had a 33-25 lead entering the fourth quarter. The Warriors outscored Durand 17-6 in the fourth quarter to seal the game.
Black Hawk senior Kayla Meier scored a team-high 13 points to lead the Warriors. Black Hawk sophomore Jen Wellnitz scored 12 points and senior Katie Powers added eight.
Argyle 46, Beloit Turner 35
ARGYLE - The Orioles went to a press in the second half and outlasted Beloit Turner.
Argyle (2-8, 0-3) went to a press in the third quarter and the Orioles outscored the Trojans 12-3.
"We did a nice job of pressing and creating a lot of turnovers in the third quarter," Argyle coach Kurt Ritschard said. "I think we built some momentum. We have been in a lot of games and finally we were able to finish."
Argyle freshman Jenna Langmeier scored 13 points to lead the Orioles. Argyle junior Kayla Ostby added 12 points.
