DARLINGTON - When it comes to bounce back games, no one has done it better this year than the Darlington girls basketball team.
For the second time this season, the Redbirds followed up a loss to Fennimore with a win over rival Cuba City. This time Darlington beat Cuba City 45-40 Friday night to sweep the season series and more importantly remain in the hunt mathematically for a share of a conference championship with some help.
Darlington (17-4, 11-2 SWAL) trails Fennimore by one game with one conference game left at Southwestern on Thursday. Fennimore (19-2, 12-1) has just one game left at Iowa-Grant on Thursday.
"This is the second bounce back game we have had against Cuba City," Darlington coach Mike Chambers said. "That's pretty big for the Redbird fans."
Darlington sophomore Cassidy Chambers scored 14 points and junior Amy Jorgenson had 13. Darlington senior Elizabeth Mathias added six. The Redbirds made 9 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter to preserve the win.
"The big stat of the game was the free throws down the stretch," Mike Chambers said.
