EVANSVILLE - The Memphis Tigers' offense came through for one club Saturday night.
Cuba City implemented Memphis coach John Calipari's offense this season and it delivered the goods in the final quarter of a come-from-behind 55-48 ousting of Darlington in a WIAA Division 3 boys basketball regional final at Evansville High School.
Darlington led 32-31 after three quarters thanks to a 9-0 flurry late in the third, with six points coming from Kyler Wiegel. The senior led his club with 16 points but committed a pivotal foul on Ben Pickel as the Cuban sharpshooter was attempting a 3-pointer at the start of the fourth quarter.
The senior forward hit the three freebies and his club hit their first nine of the decisive frame to put together a 24-16 advantage in the quarter and pull out a victory.
Pickel connected twice from beyond the arc and led all scorers with 21 points. He went 8-for-9 from the charity stripe in the last quarter and Derek Tranel went 6-for-6.
