MADISON - The Albany Comets, a Six Rivers East Conference contender, began their 2010 season by winning two out of three matches at the Madison Abundant Life Quadrangular Thursday.
The Comets faced Abundant Life in their first match and defeated the Challengers, 25-8, 25-11, 25-6 as 2009 Six Rivers East player of the year Sydney Bump delivered 14 kills and Hillary Best added nine kills.
In the Comets' second match, Bump had 15 kills, but Albany fell to Cambria-Friesland, 25-17, 21-25, 25-11. Albany closed out the night with a 22-25, 25-18, 25-18 win over Poynette as Best came up with nine kills and 17 digs.
Despite winning two out of the three matches, Albany head coach Connie Wunschel said her team still has a lot of bugs to work out. "We're not getting enough kills off of Courtney (Pfeuti's) attempts and that's due to bad passing," Wunschel said.
The Comets travel to Monticello Saturday for the Six Rivers Conference tournament where they'll face Dodgeville and Benton. Albany's first conference match is Tuesday at defending conference champion Black Hawk.
