ALBANY - Head coach Brandon Bakken and his Albany baseball team cruised to an 8-3 victory over a competitive Pecatonica team that was recently ranked as the sixth-best team in Division 4.

The Comets (4-9, 4-8) did all of their damage in the bottom of the second inning, where Albany players compiled hit after hit to score all eight of their runs. Sophomore Cole Trapp finished 2-for-3, while Tyler Dahl and Brock Gilkes each added a double apiece. Pecatonica was held scoreless until the final inning.

"We relaxed after our big second inning," Comets coach Brandon Bakken said. "Fortunately for us, we were able to do just enough there at the end to hold them (Pecatonica) off."

Albany senior Mitchell Kauk picked up the win, allowing five hits, two walks, while striking out four.

Argyle 7, Black Hawk 1

ARGYLE - After dropping their doubleheader to conference-leading Barneveld on Monday, the Argyle baseball team followed up with a 7-1 drubbing of the visiting Warriors on Tuesday.

Junior Colton Ploessl pitched five strong innings for coach Chuck Bredeson and his Argyle team (5-8-1, 5-6-1), allowing one earned run, two hits, two walks, and nine strikeouts.

Offensively, five players gathered a hit for the Orioles, who scored five runs between the first and fourth innings, and an additional two in the sixth.

"We played some of our better ball here tonight," Bredeson said. "We made the necessary plays; nothing more but nothing less, either."

Barneveld 6, Monticello 0

BARNEVELD - The Ponies dropped a 6-0 loss to the conference-leading Golden Eagles on Tuesday. After recently being tabbed as the seventh-best team in Division Four's latest rankings, Barneveld tightened their grasp on the conference lead as the Golden Eagles scored two runs in both the first and fourth innings.

Darlington 7, Iowa-Grant 1

DARLINGTON - Redbirds coach Matt Austin believed that his Darlington baseball team played perhaps their best game of the season in their 7-1 conference victory over Iowa-Grant.

Winning pitcher Jason Singer had a solid outing, allowing only one run that came in the third inning. Teammates Cody Hardyman and Cole McDonald each finished 2-for-4 at the plate for Darlington.

"I told our guys that we needed to have our best game of the season," Austin said. "They (Iowa-Grant) have given us problems, (but) I feel that our team definitely played our best game this year."

McFarland 21, Brodhead-Juda 1

BRODHEAD - The Brodhead-Juda baseball team had a night to forget in their matchup against McFarland. In a game that lasted five innings, the visiting Spartans used 19 total hits to propel them to a 21-1 thrashing over host Brodhead/Juda.

Brodhead-Juda junior Brennan Bescup batted 2-for-2 for Brodhead-Juda.
