ALBANY - The Albany boys basketball team used a big second-half surge to run away with a 65-37 win over Madison Abundant Life/Madison Country Day on Tuesday.

Albany (1-1) outscored the Challengers 42-16 in the second half.

Albany junior Tyler VanDusen scored a team-high 18 points to lead the Comets. Sophomore Isaiah Shell scored 16 points and senior Gavin Ruef added 15. Ruef had four 3-pointers for the Comets.

"They got an earful at halftime," Albany coach Derik Doescher said. "I just thought we could play a lot better basketball. We got into transition better in the second half."

New Glarus 59, Pecatonica 44

NEW GLARUS - New Glarus sophomore Trae VandeBerg and senior Tyler Kreklow combined to score 32 points to lead the Knights past the Vikings.

VandeBerg scored 17 points and Kreklow had 15 as New Glarus (2-0) outscored Pecatonica 38-24 in the second half. The Knights went on a 16-2 third-quarter run to build the lead.

"That was the difference," New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said.

Pecatonica senior Karson Feller scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Vikings.

Darlington 49, Shullsburg 46

DARLINGTON - The Redbirds had three players in double figures en route to the non-conference win.

With the win, Darlington improves to 2-0. Darlington seniors Brandon Hardyman and Kent Miehe each scored a team-high 13 points. Fellow senior Zach McArthur added 10.
