MADISON - The free throw difference told the story in the Albany boys basketball team's 51-47 win over Madison Abundant Life.

The Comets (3-4, 1-1 Six Rivers East) shot 31 free throws to Abundant Life's 10.

"It does show that we were getting the ball in the paint," Albany coach Derik Doescher said. "In the second half, we started to insert ourselves inside."

The Comets made just 16-of-31 free throws, but none were bigger than senior Adam Zurfluh's three free throws he hit in the last 20 seconds.

Albany senior Tyler Bauman scored a team-high 14 points and Zurfluh, T.J. Zweifel and Bryce Hulbert added eight each.

Potosi 34, Argyle 29

POTOSI - Kevin Berg scored 13 points for Argyle, but the Orioles couldn't hold on to a late lead.

Potosi led 12-6 after the first quarter and 15-14 at halftime. But a big third quarter by Argyle gave the Orioles a 28-25 lead with just eight minutes to go.

Then Arygle's shooting went cold. The Orioles took only four free throws in the game, but could only manage a single free-bee in the final period.

Andy Bohlman and Nate Thomas each scored six points and Taylor Saalsaa added four points for Argyle in the loss.

Potosi's Derek Flesh led all scorers with 17 points in the game.

Monticello 55, Iola-Scandinavia 44

EDGERTON - The Ponies put on their best gear on the second day of the Edgerton Holiday Tournament, knocking off last year's division 4 state runner-up, Iola-Scandinavia.

Monticello jumped out to a 20-11 lead after the first quarter, and led 35-19 at halftime.

A team that graduated nearly everybody, Iola-Scandinavia tried their best to stay in the game.

In the third quarter, the Thunderbirds outscored Monticello 16-8 to close the Ponies lead to 43-35. But a solid fourth quarter was all Monticello needed to pick up the win.

The Ponies committed just eight fouls in the game, hit 20 shots from the field (including four 3-pointers), and shot 11-for-18 from the free throw line.

Jacob Marty led Monticello with 16 points, Brandon Holz scored 13, and Tyler Meier added 11 in the win.
