MONROE - The Monroe High School softball team received a No. 4 seed and will open up the WIAA Division 2 regional tournament at home Tuesday.

The WIAA released regional seeds and first-round matchups Thursday.

Monroe will play Whitewater in a regional quarterfinal game at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Twining Park.

"We figured we would be a No. 3, 4 or 5 seed," Monroe coach Dale Buvid said. "The best I thought we would do was a 3 and the worst I thought we would be a 5."

Evansville was given a No. 5 seed and appealed the decision, but Monroe remained the No. 4 seed after a vote.

"Evansville beat Fort Atkinson, but we play a tough schedule, and Evansville lost to Juda-Albany," Buvid said. "Evansville is a good team. We will have our hands full. They will come with a chip on their shoulder because they felt like they should have been the No. 4 seed. We have Whitewater to worry about first."

If both Monroe and Evansville win their quarterfinals Tuesday, they would square-off Wednesday at Twining Park.
