MONROE - The Monroe girls soccer team needed just a single goal Monday to waltz past Lodi.

Senior Pam Lehman scored at the 25-minute, 45-second mark in the first period to score the 1-0 win.

"Pam usually plays good defense, but she took charge and asserted herself and took a great shot," Monroe head coach Miriam O'Neill said.

Monroe dominated the match, taking advantage of heavy winds to pound more than 20 shots while playing brick wall defense and holding Lodi to just three shots on goal.

"For some reason, we just couldn't get the ball into the back of the net," O'Neill said.

With the way the defense played, O'Neill wasn't terribly upset.

"We played great defense and didn' allow them to really do anything," she said. "Alyssa Studer, our sweeper, plays well every game and played very well again tonight."

Monroe's record (12-5-3) has improved, as has the team's play.

"We have had a strong season so far. It's been a tough schedule and we've played more games than ever before," O'Neill said.

Monroe will finish the regular season with a game at Evansville on May 23.
