TOWN OF WESTPORT - The Monroe girls soccer team split two games at the Badger Challenge at Waunakee and in the Town of Westport Saturday.
Monroe (9-7-2, 2-4 Badger South) defeated DeForest 2-0 in the first game and played Reedsburg to a 1-1 tie in the second game.
Monroe senior Alyssa Studer scored two goals to help the Cheesemakers shut out the Norskies. Studer scored her first goal at 3 minutes, 15 seconds and the second at 15:17.
"With our small squad, I think they did well," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "With the numbers we have, it's very hard to play games back-to-back."
Monroe senior Gail LaVoie had nine saves for Monroe.
Studer has given the Cheesemakers an offensive lift. She has scored two goals against DeForest, Lodi and Milton.
"She is really turning on the scoring," O'Neill said.
In the second game against Reedsburg, the Cheesemakers jumped out to a 1-0 lead after junior Kylee Ritschard's cross turned into a goal for McKenzie Bruce, who scored at the far post. The Beavers scored in the 49th minute to tie the game at 1.
"In the second game, we had a lot of opportunities at goals," O'Neill said. "We had a hard time finishing."
