MONROE - The Cheesemakers knocked off McFarland 4-1 in a non-conference girls soccer game Monday.
"McFarland is typically a strong team with a lot of depth. This was a very good win for us," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said.
Vanessa Studer scored the first goal of the game against the wind and just 3 minutes, 11 seconds into the contest to put the Cheesemakers up 1-0. Kylee Ritschard scored in the 43rd minute to make it 2-0 Monroe and just three minutes later Chelsea Haffele put the Cheesemakers up by three.
"We really picked the game up in the second half," O'Neill said. "Our midfield played a beautiful game, and our defense also played intelligently."
Lez'lee Foley scored in the 54th minute from deep in midfield to put McFarland (3-5-1) away for good.
The Spartans' lone goal came on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute.
Katie Coplien had nine saves in goal for the Cheesemakers, who had 19 shots on goal offensively.
The Cheesemakers (7-5-1, 1-4-0) host Mount Horeb (4-5-2) on Friday in another non-conference game.
