EVANSVILLE - Senior Devon Boeck shot a 4-over-par 76 to take fourth place to lead the Monroe High School boys golf team to a fourth-place finish and a sectional berth at the WIAA Division 2 Evansville regional on Tuesday.
Monroe shot a 346 at the Evansville Country Club to qualify for the sectional as a team for the fourth straight year. The Cheesemakers edged McFarland for the final sectional qualifying spot by four strokes. Madison Edgewood won the regional title (302) and Edgerton finished second (333). The other team moving on to the team sectional was Mount Horeb, which placed third (338). Brodhead took ninth (392) at the nine-team regional.
Monroe junior Collyn Wilde tied Clinton senior Spencer Ostrander for 11th after shooting an 82.
The Cheesemakers advance to the Division 2 Viroqua sectional on May 31.
"We know how we shot today will not get it done for sectionals," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said. "We did enough to get by. We got done what we needed to do. We are excited to be moving on to sectionals. It was a lot closer than what we wanted it to be."
Rindy wasn't surprised to see Boeck and Wilde finish in the top 11.
"They want to keep the roll going because they have both been playing so well," Rindy said. "They are excited the whole team is going."
Monroe sophomore Jack Rogerson carded a 93 and senior Kyle Krebs shot a 94.
Brodhead freshman Dayton Oliver shot a 92 to lead the Cardinals. Junior Parker Johnson carded a 94. Junior Lucas Reed and sophomore Derrick Oborne both shot a 102 to round out the top four for the Cardinals.
