BEAVER DAM - The Monroe boys tennis team continued its hot play with a third-place finish at the Beaver Dam Invitational on Saturday.
Monroe seniors Mark Hoesly and Dan Becker remained unbeaten (11-0) at No. 3 doubles by winning the title on Saturday. Monroe was the only Division 2 school in the eight-team invitational.
Madison Memorial won the Beaver Dam Invite and Stevens Point was second.
The Cheesemakers' No. 1 doubles team of seniors Artem Beer and Jim Kundert finished second place, as did sophomore Carson Root at No. 2 singles.
Monroe coach Jim Bartholf said the highlight match of the day was played by Beer and Kundert, who won two tiebreak third-set matches in a row over Stevens Point and Plymouth to reach the finals in a tough No. 1 doubles bracket.
At. No. 2 doubles, Pat Gellings and Garrett Tschanz took third place.
Monroe seniors Lauri Juonela at No. 1 singles and Matt Le at No. 3 singles both finished fourth in their flights.
