MONROE - The Monroe High School boys golf team edged Stoughton by three shots in a nine-hole Badger South dual match 161-164 on Tuesday at Monroe Country Club.

Monroe junior Nick Baumann shot a 2-over-par 36 to take medalist honors on the front nine. Monroe senior Tanner Thompson and Stoughton No. 1 golfer Ian Sutton both shot 5-over-par 39.

"I knew it would be a tough day with the conditions," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said. "It seems like we play well in bad conditions and don't let it bother us."

The Cheesemakers won the Stoughton Invitational championship on April 11, a cold and windy day.

Baumann started off with two bogeys on the first and second holes on the front nine. He birdied No. 3. After a bogey on No. 4, Baumann finished with five straight pars.

Monroe improved to 1-1 in Badger South play.

"To do anything in our conference you have to win every home match," Rindy said. "It's really hard to win on the road in our conference."

Monroe freshman Jack Rogerson carded a 42. Junior teammate Devon Boeck shot a 44 to round out the top four for the Cheesemakers.

Monroe will play in the Sauk Prairie Invitational on Monday. The Cheesemakers placed second last year.

"We are going back to win it," Rindy said.

Monroe will host Milton in a conference match on May 2.
