MILTON - Monroe senior Logan Weckerly scored a team-high 14 points to power Monroe to a 45-35 win over Milton Tuesday.
It marked the Cheesemakers' first Badger South Conference win and the first win of 2015.
"It was a grind on the defensive end and we had just enough offense," Monroe coach Pat Murphy said. "Any time you can win on the road in our league, it's a good win."
Monroe (4-6, 1-3 Badger South) limited Milton senior Tyler Westrick to just seven points after he entered the game averaging 18.9 points per game. The Cheesemakers used several players to guard Westrick and limited him to just one basket. Four players for the Cheesemakers had two fouls in the first half.
"That was big containing a very good player," Murphy said of shutting down Westrick. "We battled a lot of foul trouble in the first half."
Monroe senior Kevin Noriega added nine points and junior Ben Latimer chipped in eight points.
The Cheesemakers shot 39 percent from the free-throw line (9 of 23). Monroe will host Madison Edgewood Friday.
"They are really big and we will have to change our focus," Murphy said. "We will have to find a way to knock down some more free throws."
