MONONA - Freshman Vanessa Studer took a quick pass from Chelsea Haffele and sent the game-winning shot past Monona Grove's goalkeeper with just 59 seconds left in the second overtime, landing Monroe a 1-0 win.
It was the Cheesemakers' second double-overtime game in as many contests.
"We really stepped it up in overtime," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "It was a great shot by Vanessa. She caught the goalkeeper out of position after Chelsea's quick pass."
The goal came at the 99 minute, 1 second mark of the game. Had 59 more seconds ticked by, the contest would have ended in a 0-0 tie.
Monroe nearly didn't even make it to overtime. Goalkeeper Katie Coplien made 10 saves in goal, including a penalty kick in the final minute of the first half.
"She had a huge game and made some key saves. Saving a penalty kick is a real boost for the entire team," O'Neill said.
Monroe plays at the Badger Challenge in Waunakee on Friday, then at Sauk Prairie on May 26 to close out the regular season.
