Cheese tie Vikings 1-1 in 2OT

MOUNT HOREB - The Cheesemakers couldn't get that one final goal to score themselves a quality two-overtime road win on Friday.

Chelsea Haffele scored just 9 minutes, 26 seconds into the game on a pass from Abby Schneider to put Monroe up 1-0, but Mount Horeb tied it up with under two minutes to play.

"We were again lacking focus, and we are a little inexperienced yet in holding a lead in the final minutes," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said after her team's 1-1 tie in two overtimes against Mount Horeb.

Katie Coplien had nine saves in goal and the Cheesemakers put 15 shots on the Vikings goalkeeper.

"We were attacking well in that first half, but we just couldn't finish on our shots. We played a good, intense and physical game," O'Neill said.

The contest not only went into two extra periods, but the game was paused for an injury timeout. A Mount Horeb player had to be taken off the field in an ambulance.

"It was a cold, wet and long one," O'Neill said.
