WISCONSIN DELLS - The Monroe boys golf team struggled shooting a 352 to tie Lakeside Lutheran for seventh place in the WIAA Division 2 Wisconsin Dells sectional on Tuesday at Trappers Turn Golf Club.

After a two-hour rain delay, Madison Edgewood prevailed as the sectional champions, shooting a 307. Lodi took second (318) to join the Crusaders as state-team qualifiers.

Viroqua-North Crawford senior Austin Roth shot a 2-under-par 70 to win the individual sectional title.

Monroe senior Tanner Thompson shot a team-best 85 to finish 23rd. Monroe junior Devon Boeck and freshman Jack Rogerson finished in a four-way tie for 37th, carding an 88. Sophomore teammate Collyn Wilde took 45th with a 91. The Cheesemakers' team score of 352 was their highest this season in an 18-hole match.

"We didn't do so hot at sectionals," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said. "We shot a 352 which is not good for us. It was just bad timing. We are disappointed."

Thompson was in the mix for qualifying for state with three holes to go, but shot seven-over on the final three. He double-bogeyed No. 16 and quadruple-bogeyed No. 18.

"Tanner had a chance at state, but shot 7-over on the last three holes," Rindy said. "He was close. If he would have had par on the last three holes he would have been in a playoff."

Monroe junior Nick Baumann shot a 95 to take 54th.

"He was pretty broken up about it," Rindy said of Baumann. "His game just fell apart. Every part of it was like his worst day ever in every part - chipping, putting and driving. It was like a perfect storm."
