PLATTEVILLE - The Monroe girls swimming team continues to train hard for the Badger Conference meet and that may have taken a toll on their times at the Platteville Invitational on Saturday where the Cheesemakers finished seventh out of eight teams.
"We didn't swim as fast as I would have hoped," Monroe coach Linda Moser said. "We worked really hard in practice on Friday because we are preparing for conference."
Monroe senior Rachel Root finished first in the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 17.03 seconds. She also won the 100 backstroke (1:00.68).
"We are still working on getting below the 2:13 mark in the 200 IM which she has done this year," Moser said.
The 200 medley relay team of Angie Beaver, Sarah Kind and Briana Katzenberger took sixth. The same quartet finished sixth in the 400 freestyle relay (4:07.57). Kind set a personal record in the backstroke.
"She needs that going in to be confident," Moser said of Kind.
Moser said the Cheesemakers' second relays swam really good.
Monroe is gearing up for the Badger Conference meet at 5 p.m. Friday at Stoughton.
