PLATTEVILLE - Each of Monroe's swimmers medaled Saturday, and the Cheesemakers turned in an impressive third-place performance at the Platteville Invitational. Sauk Prairie outdistanced Wausau West, 500-463, for the title.

"Being a smaller team and struggling with illness this week, we feel really good about taking third," Monroe coach Linda Moser said. "The girls were very proud of their accomplishment. All of the girls medaled, which shows how hard they are working."

Monroe junior Leanna Schwartzlow won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 19.12 seconds, and she was fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:04.94).

Schwartzlow teamed with Randi Robertson, Jessica Weeden and Kendell Niffenegger to finish third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:02.45.

Monroe freshman Rachel Root took second place in both the 200 IM (2:19.55) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.85).

Root teamed with Jessica Weeden, Niffenegger and Robertson for a third-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The Cheesemakers' 200 freestyle relay team of Root, Schwartzlow, Niffenegger and Robertson also finished third in 1:49.62.

Senior Jessica Weeden added second-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (:26.20) and 100 freestyle (:55.74).

Freshman Cat Weeden took fifth in the 500 freestyle (6:02.3) and sixth in the 100 IM (1:11.50).

The Cheesemakers' 200 freestyle relay team of Sara Heitkamp, Cat Weeden, Sarah Kind and Rachel Wellnitz finished eighth with a time of 2:12.01. Kind was seventh in the 100 IM (1:11.75).

Monroe had two of the top swimmers in the butterfly. Heitkamp finished fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:08.80) and Niffenegger was seventh (1:10.51).

Monroe junior Jessica Moehn took sixth in the 200 IM (2:36.82), and Nichole Lattin finished eighth in the 500 freestyle (6:20.68).

The Cheesemakers' 400 freestyle relay team of Cat Weeden, Moehn, Lattin and Heitkamp finished ninth with a time of 4:23.03.

"This was a great meet to see what we need to fine tune while preparing for conference this week," Moser said.
