FORT ATKINSON - A short-handed Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team finished ninth place out of 10 teams at the Blackhawk Invitational Saturday.
Monroe senior Grace Keith missed the invitational due to a hand injury and freshman Mekenzie Hammer missed the invite due to a family commitment. The Cheesemakers finished the invitational with 152 points. DeForest cruised to the team title with 388 points.
"It was a tough day for the Monroe-New Glarus swim team," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said. "The girls didn't see the results they had hoped for, yet they know the tough practices will get them to where they want to be at the end."
Monroe-New Glarus senior Maddie Hammer finished third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.47 seconds. Freshman Francesca Schiro took eighth in the 100 freestyle (58.32). The finish by Schiro was a personal-record time.
