BARABOO - What a difference a year makes.

In two games against Baraboo last year, the Monroe softball team was limited to just one run. Fast forward a year and the Cheesemakers pounded out19 hits and rolled to a 12-2 win over Baraboo Friday in a rescheduled game. The Cheesemakers (7-3, 4-2 Badger South) had little trouble against Baraboo (8-2), the Badger North Conference leaders.

"We hit the snot out of the ball," Monroe coach Dale Buvid said.

It all started in the first inning when senior Kristin McArdle delivered a two-run single and sophomore Tasha Frie had an RBI double to give the Cheesemakers a 3-0 lead.

"We haven't consistently had the two-out hits this year," Buvid said. "Those were two big hits that got us going."

Monroe sophomore Becca Armstrong carried a no-hitter into the sixth. She gave up just one earned run. Armstrong struck out six and walked one."

Seven players had multi-hits for the Cheesemakers including Frie (3 for 4), Chandra McGuire (3 for 5), Kelsey Erickson (3 for 5), Ellie Grossen (2 for 2), Heather Barta (2 for 2), Kasey Gutzmer (2 for 3) and McArdle (2 for 5).

Monroe will get back into conference play hosting Milton on Tuesday.
