MONROE - Junior Nick Schumacher scored three goals and had two assists to power the Monroe boys soccer team to a 6-2 win over Whitewater Monday.

Schumacher scored the first goal on a penalty kick at 4 minutes, 26 seconds. Monroe (5-6, 1-2 Badger South) scored three goals in the first half.

"It was good because we have been seeing some of their scores and they played Madison Edgewood and Evansville tough," Monroe coach Tony Vasquez said of the Whippets. "They (Monroe) were just hungry for a win."

Schumacher scored his second goal at 30:38 to give the Cheesemakers a 2-0 lead, and completed the hat trick on an assist from Daniel Lapp at 42:16. That gave Monroe a 3-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, Lapp scored a goal off a pass from sophomore Aaron Ziolkowski to make it 4-0 at 60:30. Sophomore Julio Vasquez had a goal on an assist from Schumacher to make it 5-1 lead at 78:18.

Senior Luke Nicholson rounded out the scoring on a pass from Schumacher at 87:45.

Monroe sophomore goalie Aidan Lambert had seven saves. The Cheesemakers outshot the Whippets 14-9.

"He played great," Vasquez said of Lambert. "Our defense really made it easy on him. Our defense played really well. He was coming out from the net and didn't show any nervousness."

Monroe will play a Badger South Conference game at Milton at 7 p.m. today.
