FORT ATKINSON - The Cheesemakers swim team had a historic day Saturday at the Fort Atkinson Invitational.

"Last year we came home with two individual medals," coach Linda Moser said. "This year we came home with five individual medals, two relay medals and a team record broken."

Jessica Weeden's second place time of 2 minutes, 1.77 seconds in the 200 yard freestyle broke Lauren Plourde's school record, which stood for over six years. Weeden also took fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:03.28) and was a member of the 400 free relay team (3:58.94) that took fourth.

"We had many PRs (personal records)," Moser said.

Jolene DeNure and Sara Heitkamp both had career bests in the 100 butterfly, and Rachel Root and Jessica Moehn did the same in the 100 backstroke.

Root's time of 1:01.50 in the 100 back was good enough for second place at the 11-team meet. Root, Heitkamp and Kendell Niffenegger joined Weeden in the 400 free relay. Root, Heitkamp, Niffenegger and Leanna Schwartzlow took sixth in the 200 medley relay (2:01.42).

Schwartzlow finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.05 and was fourth in the 100 individual medley (2:19.80).

The Cheesemakers host Monona Grove Tuesday for its last dual meet of the season, which is also parents' night.
