STOUGHTON - The Stoughton girls basketball team hit seven 3-pointers en route to handing Monroe a 71-33 loss Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Stoughton (7-4, 3-2 Badger South) raced out to a 17-5 lead on the Cheesemakers and led by 21 points at the half.
"They (Stoughton) came out and shot the ball really well," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said.
The Vikings have won seven of their last nine games. Monroe sophomore Brooke Adams scored a game-high 14 points and made four 3-pointers. Adams had 11 points in the third quarter as the Vikings played a 1-2-2 zone.
"We did a good job of getting the ball inside and kicking it out," Mathiason said. "She (Adams) did a nice job of taking advantage of her opportunities and hitting shots. It's one of those things where experience helps. Hopefully, there is more to come."
Stoughton was led by Patrica Dumas who scored a team-high 13 points.
The Vikings outscored the Cheesemakers 40-23 in the second half. With the loss, Monroe drops to 3-7, 1-2 Badger South.
Monroe senior Kirsten Vetterli added nine points. Monroe will play at Monona Grove Friday, Jan. 17. Monona Grove (7-1, 3-1 Badger South) is ranked sixth in the WisSports.net Division 2 coaches poll.
"It will be a big challenge for us," Mathiason said. "Hopefully, after two good days of practice we will be ready to play Friday night."
Durand (Ill.) 39, Juda 26
JUDA - The Panthers couldn't battle back from a nine-point deficit and Durand pulled away for a 39-26 non-conference win Tuesday.
Durand outscored the Panthers 11-4 in the second quarter to take a nine point lead at the half.
Durand's Cassidy Derus scored a game-high 13 points.
"She's a solid player," Juda coach Curt brown said of Derus. She really gave us fits."
Juda freshman Chelsea Burkhalter scored a team-high eight points and senior Tabatha Davis added seven points.
