OREGON - The Monroe Cheesemakers came up empty in the singles competition and had a lone victory in the doubles competition as they fell to Oregon, 6-1 in Badger South tennis Thursday.
At No. 1 singles, sophomore Taylor Soddy engaged in a lengthy match with Oregon's Jackson Schneider, but lost 6-3, 6-7 (8), 6-3.
Oregon was victorious at No. 2 singles as Justin Helmkamp defeated Monroe's Quinten L'Yvonnet, 6-1, 7-5.
David Johnson of Oregon defeated Luke Andraski of Monroe at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Oregon kept the Cheesemkaers winless in singles competition as Alex Onesti defeated Luke Molinaro at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
The No. 1 doubles team of Carson Root and Garett Tschanz got the Cheesemakers in the win column with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Oregon's Kyle Onesti and Jake Torpy.
That would be the lone bright spot for Monroe as the No. 2 doubles team of Cristian Noriega and Jess Hagar lost to Oregon's Ryan Krull and Luke Ironmonger and the No. 3 doubles team of Kevin Kohlstad and Josh Riese fell to Brian Johnson and Isaac Lemke of Oregon, 6-4, 6-1.
"Oregon was definitely the better team tonight. They hit nicer shots, had better serves, and kept more balls in play than us," Monroe head coach Brad Saugstad said. "It was pretty obvious that they were the more experienced team."
Saugstad said he is very encouraged by the play of Root and Tschanz at No. 1 doubles.
"Carson and Garret continued to roll tonight. They are going to be challenged more and more as the season goes on. I'm looking forward to seeing how they rise to those challenges," Saugstad said.
The Cheesemakers' next match is Tuesday at home against Monona Grove.
