MONROE - After stringing together some big wins, the Cheesemakers took a step backward Monday in their regular season finale.

Monroe (8-15, 6-6 Badger South) fell to conference foe Monona Grove (9-8, 5-7), 11-2, behind seven errors.

"Seven errors is too many," Monroe head coach Dale Buvid said.

The Cheesemakers grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the third inning, but a four-run fourth by the Silver Eagles put Monroe on its heels.

Monona Grove scored two more runs in the sixth off Becca Armstrong, Monroe's freshman starting pitcher, and added five more in the top of the seventh. Each team had nine hits. Armstrong allowed just three earned runs, struck out four and walked six in the game.

Paisley Bennett, Kelsey Erickson and Brandi Trewartha each had two hits for Monroe.
