Cheese clip Elks behind Tordoff

ELKHORN - The Cheesemakers used a big third quarter to hold off the Elks in boys basketball Monday, 67-60.

Monroe fell behind 15-14 after the first quarter before rebounding in the second to take a 29-27 lead at the half.

A 19-13 run in the third quarter gave the Cheesemakers some breathing room.

Junior sharpshooter Bryan Tordoff led all scorers with 22 points, including four 3-pointers. Senior big man Kevin Frint added 15 points and fellow center Kyle Klinzing had eight. Damien Penniston and Michael Barrett each scored seven points and hit a 3.

Monroe shot 17-for-25 from the free throw line and committed 20 fouls. Elkhorn was 19 of 23 from the charity stripe and fouled 23 times.

The Cheesemakers (10-2), ranked No. 12 in the Associated Press Divison 2 boys basketball poll, hosts Stoughton Friday. The Vikings handed Monroe its first loss of the season, and only conference loss, 50-47, Dec. 5.
