STOUGHTON - The Monroe girls swimming team had two swimmers place in the top three in different events at the Southern Badger Conference meet Friday night.
Monroe freshman Rachel Root finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in a personal record time of 1 minute, .68 seconds. Root added a fifth-place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:18.68) and junior Leanna Schwartzlow was sixth (2:19.01).

Monroe finished seventh overall with 207 points. McFarland won the Badger South title by outdistancing Oregon, 391-335.
"Everyone wanted to PR (personal record) of course at conference," Monroe coach Linda Moser said. "They didn't get that goal, but they finished ahead of Stoughton. The times overall are faster. The times and the places compared to last year, they did a whole lot better."
The Cheesemakers set eight PRs during the meet.
"They collectively placed much better this year than last year at conference, but they didn't achieve completely what they set out to achieve and that was for all to improve their times," Moser said. "They will have one more shot next week of trying to get everyone to PR at least once during sectionals."
Schwartzlow took sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.23) to give the Cheesemakers two of the top six in that event.
Monroe senior Randi Robertson took seventh in the 100 backstroke (1:06.68) and was a fixture on a couple of relays.
The Cheesemakers' 200 medley relay team of Robertson, Schwartzlow, Root and Kendell Niffenegger finished fifth with a relay team best time of 1:59.36. to give the Cheesemakers two of the top six in that event.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Root teamed with Niffenegger, Robertson and Jessica Weeden to finish sixth with a time of 1:47.03.
The other top-10 finish for Monroe came from the Cheesemakers' 400 freestyle relay team of Jessica Weeden, Robertson, Niffenegger and Schwartzlow with a time of 3:58.04.
Moser was excited by the performances of the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays heading into the WIAA Baraboo sectional Nov. 7.
"Both the 200 medley and the 200 free relays came out to swim for it all tonight," she said. "It was great to see both relays do well because next week at sectionals we are only allowed one relay in each relay event. For many of the girls tonight was their last relay swim of the season, it was important to end on a high note, and they did."
