BURLINGTON - The Black Hawk boys basketball team battled back, but couldn't overcome a slow start and the Warriors lost to Catholic Central 57-46 in a WIAA Division 5 regional championship game Saturday, March 1.

Catholic Central (21-4), ranked No. 4 in Division 5 in the WisSports.net Coaches poll, raced out to a 17-3 lead in the first quarter. The Hilltoppers hit three 3-pointers to ignite the surge.

"We dug ourselves too big of a hole," Black Hawk coach Corey Manlick said. "They sagged off our secondary scorers. They took away our inside game. We relied on 3-pointers. We just couldn't get the ball to go in the hoop. We were kind of intimidated at times from driving into their big guy."

Black Hawk (19-6) was led by junior Heath Butler who scored a team-high 19 points and knocked down five 3-pointers. Senior Seth Butler scored 10 points and seniors Brady Meythaler and Brett Lovelace each chipped in six points.

"Those three 3-pointers in the first quarter propelled them," Manlick said. "We had a good defensive scheme. They have three good 3-point shooters and a big guy inside that had a pretty good game. It's tough to guard all of them at all times."

Catholic Central's Ben Heiligenthal scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Hilltoppers. He was one of three players in double figures and the Hilltoppers hit six 3-pointers.
