WILLIAMS BAY - The Juda-Albany softball team's postseason run and state tournament hopes were dashed after an 8-1 loss to Burlington Catholic Central in a WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinal on Monday.
Juda-Albany (17-7) committed an uncharacteristic six errors including four in Catholic Central's five-run sixth inning.
"It was an error fest," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said of his team's defensive breakdowns. "I think it was nerves. You could just see the girls were uptight and not as relaxed as they should be. In big games you can't give good teams four or five outs. That is what we did tonight."
The Panthers took an early lead in the third. Junior Kirstie Kauk singled and pinch runner Molly Marass stole second. Morganne Goecks laid down a sacrifice bunt to move her to third. Tabatha Davis followed with an RBI single to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
Senior Amber Ramos pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on four hits. She struck out nine and walked three. Davis and Katie Krupke also each pitched 1/3 of an inning to close out the game.
The seniors from Juda have won four conference championships and three regional titles.
"It's been a great season," Davis said. "For the seniors, it's been a darn good run. You can't judge your team on one game."
