Cards win RVC-South meet

BRODHEAD - The Cardinals boys golf team won the Rock Valley South Conference meet at Decatur Lake Thursday and moved into third place overall in the conference standings.

Brodhead shot a 180 as a team and edged Beloit Turner for first by two strokes.

Brodhead senior Jake Cole shot a 41 to lead the Cardinals. Cole's 41 was second overall to Turner senior Dan Schliesmann who shot a 39.

The Cardinals received a big boost from sophomore Josh Strehlow and freshman Tyler Welsh who each carded a 45. Junior Kurtis Johnson finished with a 49 to round out the top four for the Cardinals.

SWAL MEET

ARGYLE - The Darlington boys golf team finished third and Pecatonica-Argyle took fourth in a SWAL meet Thursday at Yellowstone Golf Course.

Cuba City won the meet by six strokes over Iowa Grant 162-168. Darlington shot a 183 for third and Pecatonica-Argyle shot a 211, which was 17 strokes behind fifth place Mineral Point.

Darlington junior Bryan Reichling carded a 42 to lead the Redbirds. Zach McArthur shot a 44 and Lucas Bergeson finished with a 45. Alex Schulte rounded out the top four for the Redbirds with a 52.

The Vikings were led by Brandon Watkins who shot a team-best 49. Sean Shilling shot a 51 and Micala Peterson finished with a 55. Bryan Johnson carded a 56 for the Vikings.
