CUBA CITY - The Brodhead girls basketball team cruised to a 60-40 win over River Ridge in the first-round of the Cuba City Holiday Tournament Monday.
Brodhead (7-1, 5-1 Rock Valley South) jumped out to a 23-10 lead in the first quarter. The Cardinals lead snowballed to 22 points at the half.
Brodhead freshman Erin Nyhus scored a game-high 17 points and knocked down two 3-pointers. She was one of three Cardinal players in double figures. Brodhead junior Kylie Moe scored 16 points and made two 3-pointers, while junior Amber Pickel added 10 points.
Brodhead made 10 of 14 free throws compared to 4 of 10 for River Ridge. Brodhead will play Cuba City (7-0) in the championship today.
