EAST TROY - In his final season as Brodhead-Juda's wrestling coach, Tim Colden saw the Cardinals win a fourth straight Rock Valley South Conference championship Saturday.
"This is my last year coaching so it was kind of special to win a fourth straight conference championship," Colden said. "Our seniors have never lost a conference dual. We had half of our wrestlers in the finals. I have known a lot of these kids since they were in kindergarten or first grade."
The Cardinals dominated the upperweight classes crowning three champions including senior Brady Colden (170), senior Gavin Baade (182) and senior Logan Maurer (heavyweight). The trio of Colden, Baade and Maurer went a combined 12-0 in the tournament.
Evansville-Albany posted two conference champions and had three wrestlers take second place to win the Rock Valley Conference tournament Saturday.
Evansville-Albany outdistanced East Troy 361-314.5 for the team title. Brodhead-Juda finished third overall (293). The two conference champions for the Blue Devils were sophomore Chase Katzenmeyer (32-3) at 126 pounds and sophomore Lucius Reinhart (30-5) at 195.
Colden (39-1), ranked No. 3 in the Wisconsin Wrestling Online Division 2 poll, posted three pins en route to the title. He pinned seventh-ranked Tyler Grant of Evansville-Albany in the title match in 3:42. Brady Colden trailed Grant 2-0 before the pin.
"He didn't get rattled," Brady's father and coach Tim Colden said.
Baade (39-1), ranked fourth, who took fifth place at the Division 2 state meet last year, edged Evansville-Albany's Jake Carpenter 7-6 in the championship match. Baade had a takedown in the final 30 seconds to edge Carpenter.
"Come tournament time you have to step up because everyone is shooting for the same thing," Colden said.
Maurer (40-0), ranked No. 2, had two pins. He pinned East Troy's Kyle Storandt in the title match.
"Logan wasn't pushed too hard," he said.
Brodhead-Juda also got second-place finishes from Blake Burns (103), 10th-ranked Justin Sangermano (132) and Tyler Hoesly (145).
"Blake has done a great job," Colden said. "He has beat everyone in our regional. Justin has a great shot of moving on (to sectionals)."
Capitol Conference
LAKE MILLS - Lodi remained the powerhouse of the Capitol Conference, winning its 23rd straight conference championship Saturday.
The Blue Devils had four conference champions, to rack up 293 points to run away with the team title over Sugar River (181).
Sugar River crowned three conference champions including senior Kody Popenfus (32-7) at 138, senior Michael Fink (17-6) at 182, and senior Jacob Larson (35-6) at 195.
Popenfus racked up two technical falls and one pin. He pinned Lodi's Mitch Falk in the championship match in 1:50. Fink posted two pins. In the title match, he pinned Poynette's Joe Stephens in 1:34.
After two byes, Larson, ranked seventh, pinned Marshall's Justin Chadwick in 1:18 and pinned Cambridge's Jacob Robinson in 2:41 for the title.
The Raiders received a second-place finish from John Chenoweth (126) and third-place finishes from Max Gerner (106) and Trent Siegenthaler (220).
SWC-SWAL
RICHLAND CENTER - Fennimore had three individual champions and two runner-up finishes en route to winning the 13-team conference title.
Fennimore outdistanced Mineral Point 317-234 for the team title. River Valley took third (208) followed by fourth-place Riverdale (194.5) and fifth-place Black Hawk-Darlington (175).
Black Hawk-Darlington's Conrad Blosch (182) and senior Zach Wolf (heavyweight) each finished second place and junior Taylor Evenstad (220) took third place. Teammate Colin Novak (145) finished fourth place.
Blosch went 3-1 with one pin. Fennimore's Brock Steldt defeated Blosch 9-2 in the championship match. Wolf, ranked fifth, also went 3-1 and lost a nail-biting title match 2-1 to Richland Center's Kaleb Crook.
Evenstad also finished 3-1 in the tournament. Iowa-Grant-Highland's Kyle Soderstrom defeated Evenstad in the semifinals 9-2. Evenstad rebounded and pinned Cuba City-Southwestern's Aaron McCarthy in 34 seconds in a third-place match.
Black Hawk-Darlington will wrestle in the Division 3 Lancaster regional Saturday.
