WHITEWATER - The Brodhead-Juda wrestling team had five wrestlers go unbeaten Saturday, but the Cardinals finished third place in the Whitewater Duals.

Brodhead-Juda (13-4, 3-0 Rock Valley South) crushed the Lake Geneva Badger reserves 48-26 and beat conference rival Big Foot-Williams Bay 48-18. The Cardinals lost to eventual champion Waukesha South 37-27 and tied Whitewater at 39. However, Whitewater was given the dual meet win based on the fourth tiebreaker which includes pins, forfeits and major decisions.

"Most of the day we gave up 24 points because of forfeits," Brodhead-Juda coach Tim Colden said. "We were sluggish all day even though we had five guys undefeated. I don't think we wrestled anywhere near our peak."

The five wrestlers who went 4-0 Saturday include seniors Justin Sangermano at 132; Brady Colden who went 2-0 at 170 and 2-0 at 182; Gavin Baade at 195; Stephen Voights at 220; and Logan Maurer at heavyweight. Maurer, ranked No. 2 in the Wisconsin Wrestling Online Division 2 poll, is one of four Cardinal wrestlers ranked. Baade is ranked No. 6 at 182, Brady Colden is ranked No. 7 at 170 and Sangermano is ranked No. 9 at 132.

Sangermano reached a milestone winning his 100th career match. He is the fourth wrestler for the Cardinals on the team to reach 100 career wins. The other wrestlers who have eclipsed 100 career wins include Colden, Baade and Maurer.

"It's a big accomplishment," Colden said of Sangermano's 100 career wins. "They have all won a lot of matches," Colden said.

Baade posted three pins and Colden and Maurer had two pins each. Voights won a couple of thrilling matches defeating Big Foot-Williams Bay's Will Utesch 4-3 and Waukesha South's Mitch Dennert 2-1.

Brodhead-Juda's Tyler Hoesly (145) finished 3-1. Brodhead-Juda will host Big Foot-Williams Bay at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at the middle school. With a win, the Cardinals will clinch at least a share of their fourth straight conference championship.

"It's a big match for us," Colden said. "I think it will be a close match and I'm sure they will shuffle some guys around."
