Cardinals, Vikings roll to big wins

WHITEWATER - Brodhead-Juda senior Jaron Harding ran for three touchdowns to help the Cardinals shutout Whitewater 42-0 Friday night.

Harding scored 1 and 5-yard TD runs in the first quarter and added a 2-yard TD run in the second quarter to propel the Cardinals to a 21-0 halftime lead.

Brodhead-Juda (6-2) racked up 384 total yards including 342 rushing. Brodhead-Juda senior Trenton Jordan returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown at the start of the third quarter. Senior Jesse DeLorme also had a 35-yard TD run. The Cardinals' defense limited the Whippets to just 56 total yards, which all came on the ground.

Waterloo 36, New Glarus-Monticello 19

WATERLOO - The Glarner Nights looking to lock up a playoff berth will have to wait another week after a tough loss to Waterloo.

Waterloo limited the Knights to just 54 rushing yards. New Glarus-Monticello (4-4, 2-2 Capitol South) will have to beat Cambridge at home next week to finish above .500 in conference. New Glarus-Monticello junior Gabe Noyce completed 8 of 16 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns.

Fellow junior Spencer Jones rushed for 44 yards and scored one touchdown. New Glarus-Monticello sophomore Patrick Elzen had four receptions for 102 yards and one touchdown. Noyce also tossed a 14-yard TD pass to Chris Pickett to cut the Pirates' lead to 22-19 in the third quarter, but the extra point was blocked and that was as close as the Knights would get.

PECATONICA-ARGYLE 25, BENTON SCALES-MOUND 7

BENTON - The Vikings kept their playoff hopes alive by knocking off Benton Scales-Mound (Ill.).

With the win, Pecatonica-Argyle improves to 4-4, 4-3 Six Rivers East) with a big game next week when they host Black Hawk. Pecatonica-Argyle sophomore Alec Treuthardt had 88 rushing yards and scored one touchdown. He had a touchdown on a 33-yard pass from Jon Hendrickson in the second quarter to give the Vikings a 9-7 lead.

Pecatonica-Argyle's Kyle Zwicker returned a punt 52 yards for a touchdown to give the Vikings a 15-7 lead. Sophomore Chris Severson booted two field goals for the Vikings from 33 and 37 yards.

DARLINGTON 33, SOUTHWESTERN 14

HAZEL GREEN - The Darlington football team won its sixth straight game, pushed its SWAL winning streak to 17 games and stayed in the driver's seat to win a third straight SWAL title.

Darlington senior Mitchell Whalen scored two touchdowns on 35 and 8-yard runs to lead the Redbirds. Fellow senior Zach McArthur scored on a 2-yard run and he tossed an 8-yard TD pass to Brandon Hardyman to give the Redbirds a 33-0 lead. Seth Rowe also had an 8-yard TD run.

The Redbirds (6-2, 6-0 SWAL) can wrap up a second straight conference unbeaten season by beating Fennimore, who they host Friday, Oct. 14.

WISCONSIN HEIGHTS 34, BELLEVILLE-ALBANY 21

MAZOMANIE - Belleville-Albany's Jacob Kowalski rushed for 88 yards on 11 carries, but the Wildcats couldn't spoil Wisconsin Heights' homecoming.

Belleville-Albany (0-8) took an early 7-0 lead on sophomore Garrison Wood's 4-yard TD run in the first quarter. The Vanguards then scored 21 unanswered points to take control of the game.

The Wildcats stormed back and scored 14 points in the final 33 seconds of the second quarter. Belleville-Albany's Tanner Wallom tossed a 30-yard TD pass to Trevor Binger to help bring the Wildcats back to tie the game at 21.

Belleville-Albany's Joey Beil completed 4 of 5 passes for 46 yards for the Wildcats. Binger caught three passes for 39 yards.
