Cardinals run to sixth at Platteville

PLATTEVILLE - The middle and long distance runners shined for the Brodhead-Juda girls track team in the season-opening Tri-State Small School Invitational at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday.

Brodhead-Juda senior Taylor Bluemel won the 1,600 with a time of 5:25.42. Sugar River's Noelle Marie took second (5:31.27). Brodhead-Juda sophomore Cora Purdue took second in the 800 (2:36.16). Bluemel and Purdue teamed with Amber Pickel and Cameron Novy to win the 3,200 relay (10:23.60).

Brodhead-Juda finished sixth in the 28-team meet with 32 points. Northeast (72) won the team title ahead of runner-up Lodi (57). Sugar River took eighth (29), Albany finished 14th (14), Monticello was 23rd (7) and Darlington was 24th (6).

The Cardinals' 1,600 relay finished third (4:31.42).

Albany sophomore Emma Guenther finished third in the 3,200 (13:13.96) and Monticello's Alyssen Noriega was fifth in the 200 (29.35).

Sugar River's Logan Fahey won the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.70 seconds and she was fourth in the 200 (28.93).

In the boys' invite, Sugar River finished fourth (36). Camanche (83.5) ran away with the team title in the 27-team invite. Northeast took second (68), Brodhead-Juda finished 10th (22), Darlington was 12th (18) and Albany was 24th (5).

Sugar River senior Landon Zimmerman won the shot put (50-1 1/2). Senior teammate Tyler Gilbertson took second in the 1,600 (4:54.26).

Darlington sophomore Grady Rielly finished third in the 55 hurdles (8.64) and Mitchell Wagner took third in the triple jump (38-5 1/2). Darlington's Sean Barbee added a fifth-place finish in the 3,200 (11:07.1).

Brodhead-Juda finished second in the 3,200 relay (9:01.98) and third in the 800 relay (1:42.47). Sugar River took fourth in the 800 relay (1:43.43) and Albany finished fourth in the 3,200 relay (9:20.49).
