Cardinals run away with win

BRODHEAD - On a night when Brodhead-Juda was naming its football facility in honor of former coach Gary Larsen, the Cardinals' running game stole the show Friday in a 42-6 pounding of Palmyra-Eagle.

Brodhead-Juda (5-0), ranked third in the Wisconsin Sports Net Division 4 Coaches poll, rolled up 339 rushing yards.

Brodhead-Juda senior Devin Seitz intercepted a pass in the first quarter that set up Ethan Douglas' 3-yard touchdown run with 5 minutes, 12 seconds to go in the second quarter.

Brodhead-Juda sophomore quarterback David Earleywine threw a 9-yard TD pass to Douglas late in the second quarter to give the Cardinals a 14-0 halftime lead.

Douglas rushed for 152 yards on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns, two on the ground.

Senior Jake Covert added two touchdowns in the second half - scoring on runs of 4 and 13 yards.

Sophomore Joey Jordan gave the Cardinals a lift with an 89-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and senior Brayden Fritsch scored on a 5-yard run.

New Glarus-Monticello 20, Cambridge 13

NEW GLARUS - The Glarner Knights rebounded after a tough loss from Lodi last week.

New Glarus-Monticello senior Michael Elzen put the Knights on the board with a 5-yard TD run at 3:42 in the first quarter.

New Glarus-Monticello (4-1, 1-0 Capitol South) came back from a 13-6 deficit. New Glarus-Monticello junior Tyler Dorn, who rushed for 102 yards on 18 carries, scored a 9-yard TD run and ran in the two-point conversion to give the Knights a 14-13 lead with 7:20 left in the third quarter.

New Glarus-Monticello senior Ryan Bright, who was 2-of-5 passing for 29 yards, added a 54-yard TD run in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

River Ridge 21, Black Hawk 14

RIVER RIDGE - Black Hawk couldn't hang on to a 14-0 lead and River Ridge (4-1) rallied.

Black Hawk (1-4) jumped out to a two-touchdown lead after sophomore quarterback Michael Wolff scored on a 1-yard run. Black Hawk senior Cody Foster ran for 129 yards on 11 carries.

Wolff completed 5 of 15 passes for 123 yards and threw two interceptions. Black Hawk junior James Rufenacht led the Warriors with three receptions for 40 yards.

Pecatonica-Argyle 21, Highland 7

Blanchardville - The Vikings turned their game against Highland into a track meet and rolled to a win.

Pecatonica-Argyle (2-3) rushed for 372 yards. Junior Charlie Rubio rushed for 178 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns, and sophomore Jared Johnson had 182 rushing yards on 14 carries and scored one touchdown.

Rubio put the Vikings on the board with a 22-yard run with 3:31 left in the first quarter. Rubio bolted for an 84-yard TD in the second quarter to give the Vikings a 13-0 lead.

Pecatonica senior Jeremy Meudt was 3-of-12 passing for 27 yards. Ian Zimmerman had two catches for 24 yards for the Vikings.

Marshall 20, Belleville-Albany 7

BELLEVILLE - The Wildcats (2-3) opened up Capitol South Conference play with a loss to Marshall.

Marshall (3-2) limited Belleville-Albany running back Nick Davis to 16 yards on 16 carries. Belleville-Albany quarterback Collin Adams was 16-of-30 passing for 237 yards with an 11-yard TD pass to Mike Nolden and two interceptions.
