Cardinals, Knights knocked off

JEFFERSON - A furious fourth-quarter rally by the Cardinals fell short in a battle of the first-place teams in the Rock Valley North and the Rock Valley South as the Jefferson Eagles defeated Brodhead, 47-45, Tuesday night.

The Cardinals trailed 18-5 after the first quarter and 44-30 heading into the fourth quarter.

That's when the Cardinals made a huge comeback, outscoring Jefferson 15-3 over the final eight minutes, but fell short

The Cardinals made just five of 11 free throws in the game.

Brodhead senior Dana Lewis led all scorers with 18 points and senior Amanda Johnson contributed nine points for the Cardinals.

Brodhead falls to 7-7 overall, 6-3 in the Rock Valley South.

The Cardinals will host Clinton Friday night.

Dodgeville 42, New Glarus 37

DODGEVILLE - A third-quarter scoring drought came back to haunt the New Glarus girls basketball team in a non-conference loss to the Dodgeville Dodgers.

The Glarner Knights scored just two points in the third quarter.

The loss drops New Glarus to 5-8 overall and 3-1 in the Capital South.

Senior Tanya Gruter was the lone player in double figures for New Glarus with 10 points.

Senior Michelle Preston chipped in with nine points for the Glarner Knights.

New Glarus will get back into conference action Thursday at home against Belleville.
