Cardinals have big day at RVC

PALMYRA - Brodhead-Juda finished the Rock Valley Conference wrestling tournament with three titles and a third-place team finish Saturday.

Devin Seitz went 3-0 (29-3 overall) in the 152-pound division, knocking off Whitewater's Alex Loofboro (22-4) in the championship, 8-6.

Cody Spooner (27-5) won the 215-pound weight class, going 3-0 with two pins and a major decision win (13-0) over Edgerton's Adam Carlson (21-9) in the finals.

Dylan Severson rounded out the Cardinals champions, taking top honors in the heavyweight division. Severson (31-6) was 3-0 on the day with three pins - all in under two minutes. His pin against Max Adkins of Jefferson (32-7) in 1 minute, 40 seconds, gave him the championship.

Hunter Colden finished in second place in the 145-pound division. Colden (34-3) lost the title match, 6-4, to East Troy's Sam Edwards (28-6). Mitchel Wiesenberg also took second. Wiesenberg (31-7), lost in overtime to Jefferson's Ryan McDermott in the 125-pound championship, 6-4.

Aaron Pratt (119 pounds) and Ethan Voight (171 pounds) each took in third-place honors for the Cardinals.

Brodhead-Juda finished with 284 points, trailing just Evansville-Albany (298) and Clinton (300.5) in the 11-team tournament.

SWAL-SWC Clash

LANCASTER - Darlington finished seventh at the 13-team SWAL-SWC tournament Saturday.

Devin Malott (119 pounds) and Mark Brugger (heavyweight) each won titles for the Redbirds.

Malott went 3-0 on the day, knocking off Cuba City-Southwestern's Bob Donar in the finals, 8-1. Brugger had a pin in the quarterfinals and an overtime win in the semifinals on his way to the title. In the championship match, Brugger knocked off Iowa-Grant's Ethan Welsh by a 6-2 decision.

Tanner Andrews also picked up a fourth-place finish, losing to Lancaster's Trevor Landon in the third-place match, 3-1.

Darlington scored just 157 points in the meet. Mineral Point (274.5) took first, edging out Iowa-Grant (261.5) and River Valley (224.5).

Capitol Conference

POYNETTE - Sugar River registered 113.5 points to take fifth-place honors at the Capitol Conference tournament Saturday.

Ben Schmitt (29-0) grabbed the Raiders' only title, knocking off Marshall's Spencer Meinholz (45-3) in the 160-pound championship, 5-2.

Dylan Riley finished in second place in the 135-pound division. Riley (20-15) lost to Lodi's Clint Heimbecker in the finals, 12-7.

Dan Nolden (23-13) also finished second. Nolden lost to Lodi's Tony Zeman (36-1) via pin in 59 seconds.

Mike Nolden (27-12) pinned Lakeside Lutheran's Jason Zweifel (32-8) in the 171-pound third-place match in 4:21. It was Mike Nolden's second pin of the day.

Tom Vetterli (21-17) took fourth for the Raiders in the 140-pound division. Vetterli lost to Wisconsin Heights' Zach Fogel in the third-place match, 4-0.

Lodi rolled to the conference team title, compiling 300.5 points. Marshall was second (197), Lakeside Lutheran third (172.5) and Cambridge fourth (133.5).

Scenic Ridge and River Conference

NEW LISBON - Pecatonica finished 10th and Black Hawk found itself on the bottom at the 13-team Scenic Ridge and River Conference tournament Saturday.

Black Hawk's Kyle Stauffacher finished third in the 145-pound division. Stauffacher (18-16) defeated Pecatonica-Argyle's Eli Davis (18-15) in the third-place match, 9-4.

Pecatonica's Ross Gilbertson snagged a third-place finish in the 215-pound division. Gilbertson (24-12) pinned Weston-Ithaca's Clayton Jennings in 2:15 for the medal.

New Lisbon won the team title, amassing 193 points. DeSoto was second with 169.5 points. Cashton and River Ridge-Cassville tied for third with 138 points.
