Cardinals finish sixth

EDGERTON - The Brodhead volleyball team went 2-5 and finished sixth out of eight teams at the Edgerton Invitational on Saturday.

Janesville Craig topped Brodhead 25-18, 25-18. Altoona then upended the Cardinals 25-10, 25-17. Brodhead cruised to a 25-17, 25-14 win over Clinton. Big Foot edged the Cardinals 25-21, 25-21. Lakeside Lutheran, the invite champions, rolled to a 25-4, 25-9 win over Brodhead. Edgerton edged the Cardinals 25-13, 25-19. Brodhead rebounded to knock off Deerfield 25-11, 25-14.

Brodhead sophomore Abbey Johnson had a team-high 38 kills, 41 assists and 33 digs in the tournament. Johnson was named to the all-tournament team.

Brodhead junior Chandra Clark delivered 24 kills and had a team-best 47 assists and six aces. Teammate Brooke Bescup added 24 digs.



New Glarus goes 1-4 at Iowa Grant

The New Glarus volleyball team went 1-4 in five matches the Glarner Knights played at the Iowa Grant Invitational on Saturday.

Iowa Grant edged New Glarus 25-23, 25-18. New Glarus junior Julia Barnaby had four kills and junior Riley Parker had seven assists against the Panthers. Senior Madison Perkins had a team-high 10 digs. Junior teammate Willow Lee had three aces and senior McKinley Righter delivered two blocks.

Dodgeville cruised to a 25-9, 25-4 win over the Glarner Knights. Barnaby had two kills and one block to lead the Knights. Perkins had five digs.

New Glarus then clipped Highland in three sets 25-19, 24-26, 15-12. Righter had seven kills and Lee added six kills. Parker racked up a team-high 13 assists and Perkins notched 17 digs. Senior Devon Boll had four aces.

Seneca topped the Knights 25-21, 25-14. Boll had a team-best five kills. Barnaby posted two blocks and Parker dished out four assists. Perkins had a team-high 12 digs.

In a rematch against Highland, the Cardinals edged the Knights in three sets 16-25, 25-23, 15-12. Boll had a team-best eight kills. Both Righter and Barnaby added seven kills. Senior teammate Olivia Woodmansee racked up 13 assists. Perkins had a team-high 15 digs and Boll had 11 digs.
