BRODHEAD - Senior Tyler Flannery went 2-for-3 and had three RBI to propel the Brodhead-Juda baseball team to a 5-4 win over McFarland on Saturday.
Brodhead-Juda (1-1) scored two runs in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Spartans battled back scoring one run in the third and one in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. It didn't take long for the Cardinals to answer.
The Cardinals had a two-run fifth to take a 4-3 lead. The Cardinals scored the game-winning run in the sixth.
Brodhead-Juda senior Tyler Hoesly pitched 52⁄3 innings and gave up four runs on six hits. He struck out six. Junior teammate Almonzo Freidly pitched 11⁄3 innings in relief to get the win. Freidly struck out two and gave up just one hit.
