Buvid's staff refuses to take breaks

MONROE - There's no such thing as off-days for Dale Buvid's outstanding softball pitching staff.

While No. 2 starter Carlie Olsen worked five-and-a-third nearly-flawless innings in Friday night's 10-3 win over DeForest at Twining Park, Buvid's ace and cleanup hitter Renee Schuttler did, in fact, clean up.

The senior crushed the ball all four times she stepped in to collect as many hits, two of them doubles. She also drove in three runs and didn't get cheated on any of her swings.

"All of her hits were stung, too," Buvid said.

Brandi Trewartha, Gwen Sutter and Hannah Grossen all pitched in with 2-run singles, none of them more notable than the last as the senior Grossen clubbed home two runs in the bottom of the sixth to stave off DeForest's three-run rally in the top half.

Olsen handed the ball to Meghan Roberts for the last five outs, three of which the junior recorded via strikeout.

As for the senior Olsen, she surrendered a leadoff single on a high heater before consistently working her pitches down to mow down the next 16 batters she faced. She also mixed in a changeup as she pounded the lower third of the strike zone liberally.

"When you sit down 16 kids in a row, you're doing something right," Buvid said.
