MONROE - Sophomore pitcher Jared Dillon kept the Monroe baseball team in the game for five innings, but the relief pitchers for the Cheesemakers couldn't hold down Madison Edgewood Monday, as the Crusaders defeated Monroe 12-1.

Dillon pitched five solid innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits. He struck out two and walked three. Edgewood led the Cheesemakers 3-1 going into the sixth inning.

"Jared was at about 81 or 82 pitches and he could have went back out there," Monroe coach Eric Losenegger said. "He kept us in the game. He was throwing strikes and his fastball was down in the zone. It was big for his confidence so I took him out."

Edgewood scored five runs in the sixth inning off of two Cheesemaker errors and five walks by junior reliever Dagon Rach. The Crusaders capped off the game with a four-run seventh.

"We went to the bullpen and we couldn't come in and throw strikes to get out of it," Losenegger said. "It's three games in a row now where our starters have kept us in the game for five or six innings, kept their walks down and we have made plays defensively."

With the loss, Monroe drops to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the Badger South Conference.

Senior Hunter Ward tossed 1 2/3 innings in relief and gave up three earned runs on three hits and walked one.

The Cheesemakers out-hit the Crusaders 7-6. Monroe junior Trevor Meier went 2-for-3 and Payton Stauffacher was 2-for-3 with an RBI single to right in the fourth to score Nick Benkert.

Madison Edgewood lefty Luke Follman tossed six innings to get the win. He gave up one run on six hits, struck out nine and walked one. Follman is a three-year varsity starter and two-time all-conference pitcher.

"He's a good lefty with a great curveball," Losenegger said of Follman. "We knocked him around. Hopefully, the bats are starting to come around too."

BARNEVELD - Argyle senior Brent Ritschard had two hits and knocked in two runs to lead the Orioles to an 8-3 win over Barneveld Monday.

Argyle scored two runs in both the first and second innings to take an early 4-3 lead over the Golden Eagles. The Orioles took control of the game with a three-run fifth.

Argyle sophomore Miken Godfrey pitched 5 1/3 innings to get the win. He gave up one earned run and struck out 10. Junior teammate Jakob Ploessl pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings in relief and struck out one.
