BROOKFIELD - The Monroe boys hockey co-op played short-handed in a nonconference game and lost to Brookfield 6-1 Saturday.

"Unfortunately, we were down five players for today so by the end of our varsity game, our guys were gassed," Monroe coach Josh Smith said. "Brookfield is also a good team, and they played a more physical game than we are used to."

Monroe sophomore Travis Edmunds scored the first goal on assists from Colton O'Connor and Cade Janecke to give the Avalanche a 1-0 lead at 2 minutes, 17 seconds.

Brookfield answered by scoring two first-period goals. Brookfield scored six unanswered goals for the comeback win.

Monroe goaltender Jayden Johnson had 39 saves. With the loss, Monroe drops to 0-2.
