Brodhead wins; Pec scores 48

BRODHEAD - Erika Stampfli struck out 15 batters as the Cardinals knocked off McFarland 10-4 Tuesday night to open up Rock Valley play.

Stampfli allowed 4 runs (3 earned) and gave up four hits and four walks, improving to 2-0 on the mound this season.

Amanda Pickel, Taylor Douglas and Taurie Burns each had two hits and Jana Covert had two RBIs for the Cardinals. Douglas had a double and triple for her two hits and Stampfli added a triple as well.

Brodhead scored nine runs combined in the second and third innings to break the game open.

Pecatonica 48,

New Glarus 1

NEW GLARUS - The Pecatonica Vikings did something that rarely happens in softball - they scored 48 runs in five innings.

The Vikings scored 12 runs in the first inning, 10 in the second and 18 in the third. Those totals put New Glarus behind 40-0 headed into the bottom of the third.

The Knights scored their only run in third, and Pecatonica added 3 and 5 runs in the fourth and fifth inning before the mercy-rule came into effect.

Pecatonica had 22 hits to New Glarus' one. The Vikings also went error-free, while the Knights committed four errors.

Juda 5, Belmont 1

BELMONT - The Panthers opened their season with a dominating performance on the hill from junior pitcher Amber Ramos, who struck out 16 and allowed just two walks and three hits.

Juda scored the game's final four runs in the top of the seventh.

Mineral Point 14, Darlington 7

DARLINGTON - The Redbirds had seven hits and 11 walks but still couldn't hang with Mineral Point.

The Pointers scored seven runs in the top of the fourth to push the score to 11-3 at that point.

Hailey Heins and Jacke Johnson went 2 for 2.
