Brodhead wins big; NG, BH fall

NEW GLARUS - The Columbus Cardinals scored 10 runs over the final three innings to roll past the New Glarus Glarner Knights, 12-2 in five innings in non-conference action Tuesday.

New Glarus managed just four hits off Columbus pitcher Melissa Gauger.

Senior pitcher Calsea Garbe took the loss for New Glarus, going 4 2/3 innings, walking three and striking out six.

Junior shortstop Jessica Schieldt went 2-for-2 for the Glarner Knights.

New Glarus (0-6, 0-2 Capitol South) will host Waterloo in Capitol South conference play Thursday.

Brodhead 11, Evansville 1

BRODHEAD - Junior Erika Stampfli fired a three-hitter and the Cardinals struck for four runs in the first inning on their way to an 11-1 win in five innings over the Evansville Blue Devils in a Rock Valley conference game Tuesday.

Stampfli struck out six and walked just one to get a complete-game victory.

Junior Tia Collins went 3-for-3 while freshmen Taylor Douglas (triple) and Amanda Pickel (double) delivered extra-base hits. The Cardinals collected 10 hits in all.

Brodhead (3-1, 3-0 Rock Valley South) will host Palmyra-Eagle in their next game Thursday.

Cuba City 18,

Black Hawk 0

CUBA CITY - The Cuba City Cubans improved to 6-2 overall with an 18-0 non-conference win over the Black Hawk Warriors Tuesday in a matchup of two schools that played for the girls state basketball championships just 24 days earlier.

On March 27, the Warriors fell to Wausau Newman in the Division 4 State Champ-ionship at the Kohl Center in Madison. Moments later, the Cubans took the floor and defeated Oostburg to win the Division 3 State Championship.

Black Hawk (0-7, 0-4 Six Rivers East) will be at Darlington for a non-conference action Thursday.
