Brodhead thrashes PA; BH gets big W

BRODHEAD - The Brodhead girls basketball team was clicking on all cylinders in a 80-12 thrashing of Palmyra-Eagle Friday night.

Brodhead (5-5, 4-1 Rock Valley South) opened with a 26-6 first quarter surge and led 51-8 at halftime.

The Cardinals limited Palmyra-Eagle to just four second half points.

Brodhead freshman Carly Mohns scored a game-high 21 points and senior Mariah Mohns scored 17. Sophomore Taylor Douglas added 12.

Black Hawk 47, Argyle 16

ARGYLE - Black Hawk, ranked No. 3 in the Associated Press Division 5 state poll, remained unbeaten in the Six Rivers East rolling to a win over Argyle.

Black Hawk (6-0, 3-0 Six Rivers East) jumped out to a 12-5 first quarter lead over the Orioles. The Warriors held the Orioles scoreless in the second quarter and led 24-5 at halftime.

Black Hawk senior Rachel Rygh scored nine points to pace the Warriors. Senior Melissa Wellnitz and junior Kayla Meier each added eight.

Argyle (0-7, 0-3) was led by junior Katie Dammen who scored seven points.

Wisconsin Heights 56, New Glarus 45

MAZOMANIE - The Glarner Knights dropped a conference game to Wisconsin Heights Friday night.

The Vanguards jumped out to a 19-6 lead in the first quarter. New Glarus (3-5, 0-3 Capitol South) came back and outscored Wisconsin Heights 21-12 in the fourth quarter.

"We finally found ourselves in the fourth quarter," said New Glarus coach Megan Scheele. "I'm proud of how the girls fought back."

New Glarus sophomore Anya Schween and junior Alycia Atwell each scored 11 points to lead the Knights.

Barneveld 60, Monticello 33

BARNEVELD - The Monticello girls basketball team is still searching for its first conference win after losing 60-33 to Barneveld.

The Eagles outscored the Ponies 18-13 in the first quarter and led by 12 points at halftime. Barneveld put the game away by outscoring the Ponies 28-13 in the second half.
