Brodhead pulls away from P-E

PALMYRA - Coach Brian Kammerer was frustrated with his Brodhead boys basketball team's free throw shooting Friday night, but there was nothing wrong with the Cardinals' timing.

Senior guards Trent Jordan and Tate Harnack scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, in leading Brodhead to a 52-38 victory against Palmyra-Eagle in Rock Valley South play.

The Cardinals (4-2, 4-1 Rock Valley South) led 36-30 entering the fourth quarter, then took control by making eight free throws in the final eight minutes.

"We pulled away in the fourth by pressuring them and knocking down some free throws," Kammerer said. "We made them when they mattered, I guess."

Kammerer said the Cardinals would have iced the victory much earlier if they hadn't shot a paltry 44 percent (15 of 34) from the foul line.

"We do practice them," Kammerer quipped. "We have struggled from the line and missed numerous bunnies up-tempo because kids have rushed shots. We have to get in better shape and hit our free throws or it's going to cost us games."

Senior guard Jacob Johnson and senior forward Jesse DeLorme each added nine points for Brodhead.

Matt Preuss scored 12 points and Alex Kelly 11 for Palmyra-Eagle.
