BRODHEAD - The Brodhead-Juda wrestling team capped off a perfect season winning the Rock Valley Conference tournament Saturday.

The Cardinals went 5-0 during the regular season and won the conference tournament title with 337 points, well ahead of second-place East Troy (298) and Evansville Albany (286).

The Cardinals had two conference champions in senior Hunter Colden at 170 pounds and sophomore Logan Maurer at heavyweight. The Cardinals had nine wrestlers finish in the top three en route to the championship.

"I think our kids showed up to wrestle, that's for sure," Brodhead-Juda coach Tim Colden said. "I thought they (Hunter Colden and Maurer) were definitely the favorites in their weight classes. Evansville-Albany took it to us over Christmas in December. It was nice to beat them. I have a lot of respect for their coaches and program."

Brodhead-Juda's Dalton Oborne (126), sophomore Brady Colden (160), sophomore Gavin Baade (182) each finished second place in their weight classes. The four third-place finishers included Justin Sangermano (113), Coty Knudtson (120), Tyler Davis (195) and Reave Lincoln (220). Brodhead-Juda's Dylan Kubly (132) and Jordan Schubert (145) each took fourth place.

"We had five guys in the finals and Dalton Oborne was kind of a surprise," Colden said. "He had a good tournament."

Hunter Colden (40-0), ranked No. 2 in the Division 2 Wisconsin Wrestling Online poll, pinned Edgerton's Alex Gosda to start the tournament in 3 minutes, 19 seconds and pinned Palmyra-Eagle's Brett Knoebel in the semifinals in 3:54. In the championship match, Colden defeated Whitewater's Zach Miles 8-2.

The Cardinals dominated the middle and upper weights taking top three in each one. Maurer (38-2), ranked fifth, was dominant posting three pins. He pinned Edgerton's Matt Guir in 56 seconds in the quarterfinals and then pinned East Troy's Seth Braam in 51 seconds. In the title match, Maurer pinned Evansville-Albany's Dustin Bjugstad in 2:43.

Oborne pinned Clinton's Jaks Teubert in 2:51 and then pinned East Troy's Gabe Braam in 47 seconds in the semifinals. He was pinned by Parkview's Ryan Cox in the championship match in 4:54. Brady Colden (35-5) was just as impressive as Oborne. He pinned East Troy's Travis Cadman in 21 seconds in the quarterfinals and pinned Jefferson's Jarad Bartelt in 1:23 in the semifinals. Brady Colden then lost a heartbreaker in the title match 6-4 to Parkview's Derek Gerber.

"He just wrestled a little bit better than Brady," Tim Colden said. "Brady just couldn't quite get him down."

Baade (23-5) opened the tournament by pinning Whitewater's Tommy DuVal in 1:03 and then defeating East Troy's Oscar Donegan 10-3. In the championship match, Baade lost a hard fought match 14-11 to Parkview's Justin Graham. The Cardinals also had some big contributions from the lower weights.

"Gavin is wrestling well," Tim Colden said. "He took that kid (Graham) right to the limit."

Sangermano, who finished third, pinned Evansville-Albany's Taylor Milz in the quarterfinals in 1:17. He then lost to Edgerton's Jonny Schieldt 4-1. Sangermano rebounded to pin Whitewater's Alberto Rodriguez in 57 seconds and pinned Jefferson's Jacob Arnold in 47 seconds for third place. Knudtson pinned Edgerton's Daniel McCue in 1:25 in the quarterfinals and then lost to East Troy's Ryan Engel 16-2. He bounced back by knocking off Whitewater's Osvaldo Serna 10-4 and pinning Clinton's Josh Curtis in 2:46.

Davis opened the tournament defeating Whitewater's Samson Shekey 12-6 and then lost to Evansville-Albany's Ben Reed 10-2. He came back and defeated Edgerton's Justin Cody 3-1 and pinned Palmyra-Eagle's Lucas Houk in 2:40 to seal third place. Lincoln started the tournament strong by pinning East Troy's Kyle Storandt in 5:23. In the semifinals, he was pinned by Big Foot-Williams Bay's Will Utesch in 1:10. Lincoln finished with a bang pinning Edgerton's Spencer Stone in 2:37 and pinning Storandt in 3:26.
